Q: How did you first hear about BASE?
A: I first heard about BASE from another parent who is passionate about our community. Her daughter and mine were friends in middle school when BASE was forming a group of youth to get more involved. My daughter was asked to attend a trip to learn more about what it means to be part of a coalition and how she can have an impact working with BASE.
Q: Why did you decide to become a coalition member?
A: Since my daughter was involved and would tell me what BASE stood for and how they were involved in making Evansville a better place especially for our youth I was intrigued. At that time I had 2 children reaching the high school age and wanted to be aware of what struggles other students were having along with the influence of addictive drugs beyond cigarettes and alcohol. I became astonished with all the items on the market and how easy it was to acquire in our little community. BASE has done an amazing job of educating our youth and parents along with trying to remove prescription drugs from homes to avoid youth getting access.
Q: What is your favorite thing about being involved with BASE?
A: My favorite thing about BASE is the community involvement! The relationship between the police department and youth. The help from businesses to want to make Evansville a great place to raise a family. The education they provide and the opportunities we have by having BASE in our community. If you aren’t sure what BASE is, please attend a meeting or ask one of us on the board. This a great ‘think outside of the box’ organization to get families the resources they need!
